Central Bank presents: "Bubbles" New work by Antonius Roberts

TONIGHT: Thursday, April 4 6pm to 9pm Central Bank of The Bahamas Art Gallery

‘Bubbles’ catches the essence of The Bahamas and embodies and represents all the qualities we associate with our water – clarity of light, floating, weightlessness, translucency, freedom of movement. This body of work includes acrylic studies on canvas and paper which influenced the blown glass pieces inspired by the merging of the vast, mysterious life between the water – plants, corals, creatures and bubbles – man’s interaction with the ocean.

The completed work is designed to have a playful quality - children blowing bubbles, releasing balloons or mimicking the life-giving release of bubbles from a diver’s tank. It is envisioned that the work be suspended above ground, floated between ceiling and floor. Glass with its transparent and seemingly weightless quality was the obvious medium for this creation, designed purposefully to echo the movement of the sea - nothing is static - all is flowing in continual motion.
