A man was shot dead as he rode his bicycle on Honeycomb Street on Monday night, police said.
Superintendent Paul Rolle said the man was riding in the area, off East Street, when two men wearing hooded jackets accosted him around 9:20 p.m.
"One produced a weapon and began discharging at the direction of the male on the bicycle and hit him multiple times about the body, fatally wounding him," Rolle said.
He said the men escaped the area onto a track road that leads to East Street.
Rolle said police do not suspect robbery as a motive for the killing, but could not say why the victim was attacked.
The man died at the scene. He was identified as Roderick Robinson Jr.
Rolle also said police had several suspects in custody in relation to several murder investigations.
He said police were questioning a woman in connection with the murder of Hillary Cargill, 45, a resident of Little Blair, who was killed in a home invasion on Friday.
Police also had a man in custody for questioning in relation to the murder of Dustin Culmer, who was chased and killed in Kennedy Subdivision on January 29.
Rolle said police have also arrested a man in connection with their investigation of the deaths of Dwayne Lloyd, of Penny Savings Lane, and Andrew Sturrup, who were both shot outside Union Village on January 5.
The latest murder came hours after National Security Minister Dr. Bernard Nottage said serious crimes dropped 14 percent from the start of the year through February 26, compared to the same time last year, and murders were down by 24 percent during the same period.
Nottage said in spite of the most recent murders, the numbers suggest the government's crime fighting strategies are producing results.
Monday's murder pushed the count to 20 for the year.
