A MAN believed to have been involved in an attack on a police officer was left nursing a gunshot wound after the officer's weapon reportedly discharged.

According to reports, it was around 11pm Saturday while patrolling in the area of Pitt Road on Harbour Island that the officer spotted a man wanted by police on that island. Reports state that the officer proceeded to arrest the man and was then attacked by a group of men who helped the suspect get away. The men reportedly tried to disarm the officer and in the scuffle, the officer's weapon discharged, hitting one of the men in the left thigh.
