Wed, Feb 6th 2013, 10:35 AM

The One Bahamas Foundation will hold a 'Unity Walk' on Saturday February 23, 2013, in celebration of its 20th anniversary.
The fun walk will begin at 6:30 a.m., leaving Arawak Cay and traveling west along West Bay Street into the Cable Beach area to the turn-around point at the round-a-bout at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort, and returning east along West Bay Street to Arawak Cay.
The purpose of the walk is to continue to promote the ideals of the One Bahamas Foundation - unity in the community, and the event is expected to attract a wide cross section of the community. To this end, organizers are encouraging businesses, community groups, churches and families to participate. Proceeds will benefit deserving charities, including the Boys Scouts, the Girl Guides and the Boys Brigades. The registration fee is $15.
The One Bahamas organization was formed in November, 1992, by the then Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Algernon Allen, with the purpose of generating a greater sense of identity, pride and community among Bahamian youth. In 2006, a foundation was established under the leadership of Sir Orville Turnquest and Sir Durward Knowles. Today, the organization strives to promote unity, loyalty, social harmony and friendship among every person residing in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
The major sponsors of the 'Unity Walk' are Nassau Containers Port, Atlantis, Crime Stoppers, BTC, RBC, and Pilots International. Persons may register at any of three registration depots - La Boutique, Robinson Road (328-2144), Lil' General's Food Store, East Street South (325-5798), or The SignMan, Shirley Street (356-5580). For online registration and more information about the 'Unity Walk' and One Bahamas, the public is asked to visit the website at www.onebahamas.org.
