Court clears Melvin Maycock Sr. of drug conspiracy charge

A magistrate has acquitted Melvin Maycock Sr. of a drug conspiracy charge in relation to a $1.6 million drug seizure.
Police charged Maycock with conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply after they seized 60 crocus sacks of marijuana, with a weight of 1,257 pounds, and 10 crocus sacks and a five-gallon bucket of hashish oil, with a weight of 435 pounds, inside a storage locker at Blake Road.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Carolita Bethell agreed with a no case to answer submission put forward by Maycock's defense lawyer Roger Gomez Jr.
The case continues against the remaining defendants in the case. Mario Roberts, 53, has elected to remain silent to the charges of conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply and drug possession.
The third defendant, Kevin Roberts, will give testimony in his defense to those charges on Thursday.
A jury has been impanelled to hear an armed robbery case that dates back to 2004.
Gregory Dion Johnson is accused of the December 20, 2004 armed hold-up of Kelly Carroll.
Prosecutors allege Carroll was robbed of a Lexus GS300, worth $35,000 at gunpoint.
Eucal Bonaby is the prosecutor and Romona Farquharson appears for Johnson, who is on remand at Her Majesty's Prisons.
The case continues today.
