Canon Basil Tynes Celebrates 25th Anniversary Of Ordination

The Reverend Canon Basil Tynes will celebrate his 25th anniversary of ordination to the sacred priesthood with a Solemn High Mass on Friday. The celebratory Mass will take place at 7 p.m. Canon Tynes, the rector at St. Barnabas Parish, was ordained to the Diaconate at Holy Trinity Church on January 19, 1987 and one year later, January 25, 1988, he was ordained to the scared priesthood by the Rt. Reverend Michael Eldon in Christ Church Cathedral.

Over the years Canon Tynes has served as assistant curate at the Parish of the Most Holy Trinity, New Providence; chaplin and family life teacher at St. John's College; priest at St. Peter's Parish, North Long Island and St. Christopher's, Rum Cay. He was a part-time religious studies teacher at North Long Island High, Long Island; rural dean of the Southern Bahamas; rector of St. George's, New Providence; canon missioner for the Diocese of The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands; chairman of the Commission on Mission, Renewal, and Ministry and now rector of St. Barnabas Parish, New Providence.

In addition to his pastoral, civic and international duties, Canon Tynes is a published author of many religious books including "Taking the First Few Steps: A Marriage Preparation Series", "Re-Affirming our Anglican Heritage", "Laying a Solid Foundation", "A Firm Faith - A Confirmation Guide" and "Training Manual for Chalice Bearers, Lay Readers and Catechists", and he is presently working on his seventh book "From Struggle to Victory: A Lay Person's Guide to Understanding The Revelation to St. John." In addition to the celebrations being held on the date of Canon's Tynes' ordination a service of thanksgiving will take place on Sunday, February 3 at 9 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church followed by a luncheon in honor of Canon Tynes at Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort in Cable Beach.
