Police are looking into reports of an alleged rape of a female security guard while on duty at a public school on Christmas night. Superintendent Paul Rolle, head of the Central Detective Unit (CDU), said he could not provide details on the matter, as he had not received an official report. "I just heard talk about it," he told The Nassau Guardian. "I have not been briefed on it and couldn't speak on it. I can't confirm if it has happened or not."

However, another female security guard employed at the Ministry of Works said she learned that her colleague was allegedly raped and robbed by two men. The guard, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there is a need for more manpower, noting that both male and female guards often work night shifts alone. "Even if you are trained to defend yourself, if a man comes with a gun what could you do?" she asked. "No school, day or night, should have one person

"There are guys who watch you just to see who you [are] with and when you [are] alone." She said the matter of one security guard on duty has been a longstanding problem. Minister of Education Jerome Fitzgerald said there was no provision for more security guards in this fiscal budget. Therefore, the ministry won't have a full complement of security guards until the 2013/2014 budget, he noted.

This is not the first time a security guard has been allegedly assaulted while on duty at a school during the night shift. In April, four masked men, one of whom was reportedly armed with a shotgun, stormed Doris Johnson Senior High School and tied up, blindfolded and gun-butted the security guard several times, according to police.
