Environment and Housing Minister confirms fatal accident involving contractor

Reports reaching my ministry confirm that during the early hours of Saturday, 9th December 2012, a tragic accident involving a United Sanitation vehicle claimed the life of a young woman. United Sanitation is contracted by the Department of Environmental Health Services to collect garbage.

The matter is under active investigation by the police and a more detailed account of the circumstances surrounding this tragedy will be provided, as soon as additional information is made available to us.

I mourn the loss of life of a such a young person with her entire life ahead of her. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased during this very difficult period.
