Man accused of attempted murder gets self-signed bail

A judge on Friday released a man accused of attempted murder on his own recognizance.Senior Justice Jon Isaacs ordered Ambrose Adderley Jr.'s release at his arraignment yesterday.Adderley, who prosecutors alleged stabbed a man at Long Island on December 31, 2011, was supposed to be arraigned since August 2012.However, prison officials failed to bring him down although the court included his name on an order of attendance.Isaacs told Vinette Graham-Allen, the director of public prosecutions, that the prison superintendent Dr. Elliston Rahming had to explain why Adderley was not produced to court.Rahming will give his explanation to the court on Tuesday.Adderley had remained in custody despite being granted $9,000 bail because his family was unable to meet the requirements to secure his release.His lawyer Michael Kemp, asked the court to lower the bail because Adderley's family was of "humble means".Isaacs removed the security requirement and freed Adderley on self-signed bail on the condition that he report to the police station in Clarence Town, Long Island, twice weekly.Adderley's trial is scheduled to begin before Justice Indra Charles on August 18, 2014.A trial date was also set for a teacher accused of having sex with a student.Jason Cartwright denied having sex with a student in his computer sciences class between November and December 2007 at his arraignment before Justice Isaacs.Cartwright will go to trial on February 1, 2013.
