The 2012/13 basketball series is being dubbed the most exciting season in the history of the Government Secondary Schools Sporting Association (GSSSA) by president Alfred Forbes. Now that the association has partnered with Vitamalt, Forbes believes that the student-athletes will soar above the rim. He is also expecting better fan support during regular season and championship games. This year's series will tip-off on Monday, November 19 at the D.W. Davis gymnasium. Four of the top ranked teams will take to the court in the league's opener.

Up first are the C.R. Walker Knights and the R.M. Bailey Pacers, followed by the C.I. Gibson Rattlers and the C.C. Sweeting Cobras, in the feature game. The Rattlers are the defending champions in the GSSSA and the Cobras are the 2012 Hugh Campbell Basketball Championships. Both the Knights and the Pacers were ranked among the top five schools last year. "What a perfect way to tip-off the season, with four of the top ranked teams," said Forbes. "We are not finished because of the softball series that we are currently involved with, but we are going to start basketball. We will start on Monday, to hopefully stimulate the interest of the players and fans.

So on Monday, the entire week actually, we will be featuring all senior boys' teams. Monday promises to be the most exciting day for us. The following Monday, which will be the final week before the Christmas break, we will host the senior girls. This too will bring excitement because this allow all the focus to be on them. When we come back from the Christmas break, we will go to the regular schedule featuring all of the teams." Forbes and the executive members in the GSSSA are inviting Corporate Bahamas to come on board, and establish a workable partnership which all student-athletes will benefit from.

Head of the Sports Unit in the Ministry of Education, Evon Wisdom is pleased with the work the board is doing now. He encourages Forbes and crew to continue and thanked Stacey Mackey, brand manager at Burns House Group of Companies for their support and partnership. Only one round of basketball will be played. The season will be over in time for the annual Hugh Campbell Basketball Championships. After basketball is soccer. Forbes said they are looking and open to more companies wanting to partner.
