Remarks by Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Hubert Ingraham, at the official opening of the Pelican Bay Hotel's new convention facility, Canal House. The ceremony was held Friday night at the Freeport, Grand Bahama property.

I am very happy to join you for the official opening of Pelican Bay’s Convention facility - Canal House.

Pelican Bay, considered one of the ‘small treasures of The Bahamas’ by our Ministry of Tourism, has long been one of my favoured resting points when in Freeport and I have been pleased to see you continue to succeed even during this most recent economic downturn internationally.

I have no doubt that your reputation as a quiet, courteous and well appointed resort has much to do with the significant repeat business that you enjoy.

The addition of nearly 40,000 sq. ft. of meeting/convention space, several new restaurants and additional office space here at Canal House makes you an ideal location for small conferences and meetings.

I want to thank the owners and operators of this special little boutique hotel for your continued investment in our country.

And I thank your staff for the excellent service they provide to your guests.

I wish this establishment continued success.

It is my great pleasure to declare Canal House officially open.
