Teachers union elections today

School violence and security, a lack of health insurance, accountability and leadership are among some key issues teachers would like to have addressed by the new slate of officers who will be elected today to head the Bahamas Union of Teachers for the next three years.
Some 4,000 teachers throughout the country are expected to participate in the voting process, which will mark the second time elections are being held in the past two years.
And with school violence at an all-time high, many of the government school educators are looking to the labor organization to work hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Education to address the issue.
