A Juice For Your Bladder

On the next hot summer afternoon, forgo the lemonade stand and choose an icy glass of cranberry juice instead. Your bladder will thank you. A review of research shows that cranberry juice helps to protect bladders from infection. In two studies, daily intake of cranberry products significantly reduced the incidence of urinary tract infections over the course of 12 months.

How much is enough? Women in one study drank about 250 milliliters of juice daily. That’s about 1 liquid cup. Turns out cranberries contain a special compound that can prevent bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall.  And cramming cranberries into your diet can give you these additional benefits by improving heart help and keeping your arteries young. It also gives you cancer prevention and brainpower boost.

So protect your bladder and drink 100% or low sugar cranberry juice.  For more information on health issues and Women’s Health, attend the Distinguished Lecture tomorrow evening at 6pm at Doctors Hospital’s featuring Dr. Sharon Thompson.
