After dancing and training for 15 years, accomplished Bahamian dancer Mervin Acharo Smith will present his first solo dance concert as an artist this month. The event, "Elements of a Man", promises to be one to remember, says the performer. "I see it fitting to bring something unique, special and intimate to the stage for the first time - me!" he said. "You might wonder, how can this one man carry an entire concert by himself? Let me tell you, growth, challenges, ambition and goals, will thrust one into greatness."

The two evening performances will help provide the much-needed funds for this talented young dancer to pursue a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance and Theatre at the Lehman College in the Bronx, New York. "The arts are growing here in the country, but there is still so much to be done," he said. "Funding for educational pursuits in this area is not highly supported, so I really need your support in order for me to make this educational endeavor a reality."

"And for those who are not able to come, don't let that stop you from planting a seed in fertile grounds!" "Elements of a Man" takes place at New Providence Community Center on Blake Road 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 24 (elegant gala reception and performance for $40) and Saturday, August 25 (for $25). Tickets for the evening can be purchased at Mystical Gym and Fitness Centre, Patton Street, Palmdale, or by calling 436-7710/445-2971. Be sure to find out more about the dancer by finding Bahamian Dance West Wing on Facebook.
