Dr. Minnis Meets With Mt. Pleasant Residents

On Friday June 22nd, Killarney's member of parliament, Hon. Dr. Hubert A. Minnis met with the residents of Mt. Pleasant to discuss issues that affect the community and bring them up to date about programs being planned for the area.

Dr. Minnis discussed with them the plan to utilize the $50,000 which has been allocated to each constituency. The funds will to be used in the prevention of crime with the installation of CCTV in Killarney. He further advised that the plans for implementation will be discussed with each neighborhood association, giving them an opportunity for input and suggestions, after which representatives from the Royal Bahamas Police Force will be invited to give details about hotspots and give advice about the best areas for installation of the cameras.

Dr. Minnis also advised residents of the Let's Read Killarney Summer program - Students in three categories must read a book and write a book report. Book reports will be graded by community educators and winners will be chosen from three age groups to win desk top computers. Deadline for submission - August 19th. There will also be a Summer Art Program at the constituency office beginning the first week in July (space limited) as well as a Hurricane Preparedness Poster Contest ( win a gift basket of hurricane supplies) Deadline July 27th. Dr. Minnis encouraged Mt. Pleasant residents to prepare for the first annual inter-association basketball tournament as well as the second annual bowling tournament.

After the meeting, Dr. Minnis enjoyed a game of basketball with some of the youth in the area. Announcements will be sent by email as dates and times are set for Dr. Minnis to meet with the various areas in Killarney.
