SEVEN DAY WEATHER FORECAST FROM 21st – 27th JUNE, 2012

GENERAL SITUATION: A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE DRIFTING IN THE EAST-CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO WILL HELP TO SUSTAIN WARM TROPICAL MOISTURE ACROSS THE ISLANDS THROUGH WEDNESDAY. THIS IS TO RESULT IN PERIODS OF HEAVY SHOWER AND OCCASIONAL THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. MEANWHILE, A WEAK RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL TRY TO BUILD WESTWARD ACROSS THE ISLAND CHAIN.

THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IN THE EAST-CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO IS BEING MONITORED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FOR DEVELOPMENT. REGARDLESS OF DEVELOPMENT, PERIODS OF HEAVY SHOWERS IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS THROUGH WEDNESDAY AND IS LIKELY TO RESULT IN LOCALISED FLOODING. RESIDENTS IN LOW LYING AREAS SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTION TO PROTECT PROPERTY AND LIFE.

Thursday 21st – Cloudy to Overcast during the day with Scattered Showers and Isolated Thunderstorms mainly across the Northwest and Central Bahamas; Maximum Temperature 84°F. Cloudy at night with Few Scattered Showers and Isolated Thunderstorms; Minimum Temperature 76°F. Winds SE’LY, 10-15 knots over ALL areas; Seas 2-4 feet over open waters.

Friday 22nd – Cloudy and Warm during the day with Widely Scattered Showers and Isolated Thunderstorms; Maximum Temperature: 87°F. Cloudy at night with Scattered Showers and Isolated Showers and Thunderstorms; Minimum Temperature 76°F. Winds SE-S, 10-15 knots over ALL areas; Seas 2-4 feet over open waters.

Saturday 23rd – Cloudy to Overcast and a tad Breezy during the day with Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms mainly across the Northwest and Central Bahamas; Maximum Temperature 86°F. Cloudy and still a bit Breezy at night with pockets of Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms mainly across the Northwest Bahamas;; Maximum Temperature 76°F. Winds SE-S, 15 knots over ALL areas; Seas 3-5 feet over open waters.

Sunday 24th – Cloudy to Overcast and Breezy during the day with Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms mainly across the Northwest and Central Bahamas; Maximum Temperature 86°F. Cloudy and Windy and night with Scattered Showers and Isolated Thunderstorms; Minimum Temperature 78ºF. Winds SE-S, 15-20 knots over ALL areas during the day increasing to 15-25 knots at night; Seas 4-6 feet building to 5-8 feet over open waters. Small craft caution in effect during the day and advisory comes into effect at night.

Monday 25th – Cloudy and Windy during the day with Scattered Showers and Widely Scattered Thunderstorms mainly across the Northwest Bahamas; Maximum Temperature 88°F. Cloudy and Windy at night with Scattered Showers and Isolated Thunderstorms; Minimum Temperature 78F. Winds SSE-SSW 15-25 knots over ALL areas but wind gusts to near gale strength is expected across the extreme Northern Islands; Seas 6-9 feet over open waters. Small should remain in port in the Northwest Bahamas while a small craft advisory continues for the Central and Southeast Bahamas.

Tuesday 26th – Cloudy and Windy during the day with Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms; Maximum Temperature 88°F. Cloudy and Breezy at night with Scattered Showers and Isolated Thunderstorms; Minimum Temperature 77°F. Winds S-SW 15-25 knots across the Northwest and Central Bahamas; Seas 6-9 feet over open waters. Winds S’LY 15 knots in the Southeast Bahamas; Seas 4-6 feet over open waters. Small craft Advisory remains in effect.

Wednesday 27th – Mostly Cloudy, Breezy and Warm during the day with Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms; Maximum Temperature 89°F. Mostly Cloudy and Breezy at night with Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms; Minimum Temperature 77°F. Winds S-SW 15 knots over ALL areas but decreasing toward evening; Seas 3-5 feet over open waters.
