Two Arraigned For Dangerous Driving

Two Grand Bahama residents were arraigned in the Freeport Magistrate Court on Friday to answer two separate charges of killing in the course of dangerous driving.

Alton Curtis Jr., 21, of Widgeon Road Grasmere was charged in connection with a fatal accident that occurred in March.

According to police, the incident resulted in the death of a sanitation services employee who was riding in the back of a garbage truck.

According to court dockets, Curtis drove a 2005 Isuzu Flatbed truck along Queen?s Boulevard in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Ronald Souffrant.

On Friday, Curtis who was not represented by an attorney, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Debbye Ferguson granted Curtis bail in the amount of $5,000 with two sureties.

He is expected back in court on February 18, 2009.

Also appearing in court on Friday was a woman who had allegedly caused the death of a motorcyclist in March.

Maggie McDonald, 45, of Cocknell Court, Sherwood Forest appeared before Magistrate Andrew Forbes.

According to police, McDonald was driving a silver Hyundai Tuscon along Midshipman Road on Saturday, March 22 in a manner dangerous to the public and thereby caused the death of Dwayne Minnis.

McDonald pleaded not guilty to the charge.

She was granted $3,500 bail with one surety.

McDonald, who was represented by attorney K. Brian Hanna, is expected back in court on November 11.

On Thursday, in New Providence, Hugh Jones, 31 was charged with two counts of killing in the course of dangerous driving.

The accident claimed the lives of 44-year-old Ismae Mackey and her son 17-year-old Ryan Rahming.

While being represented by attorney T?shura Ambrose, Jones was granted $10,000 with two sureties.

He expected back in court on October 15 at 10am.

Ryan became the country?s 27th fatality when he died from injuries sustained on Independence Day just off Prince Charles Drive.

The vehicle the teenager was driving was traveling west near the rear entrance of St. Augustine?s school when it collided with a vehicle traveling east.

Rahming?s mother, Mackey, a former employee at the Ministry of Education died at the scene.

The two arraignments in Grand Bahama came on the same day that 2-year-old Jerome Hanna was accidentally killed by a police van.
