In September 2011, Mr. Ian Fair was appointed as a Director of the Board of The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited. Today, the Board is pleased to announce that Mr. Fair has now assumed the role of Chairman of the Board. In this role, Mr. Fair will guide the strategic direction for the organization, and focus on maximizing growth opportunities for Freeport and Grand Bahama Island. The Board is also pleased to announce that Mr. Fair will be assisted by Miss Sarah St George who will assume the position of Vice Chairman. Mr. Fair will work closely with Ian Rolle and the current executive team at GBPA to develop new strategies for development, and build on the already existing initiatives and programmes.
In a joint statement issued by Sir Jack Hayward and the St. George family it was expressed that "Ian Fair exemplifies the true essence of seasoned leadership. His immense International exposure, and expressed interest in promoting the untapped potential of Grand Bahama Island to the world, will greatly assist in improving the economic conditions we now face. With the great work that the current Team at GBPA has been doing, in spite of the times, coupled with Ian's appointment, we believe that Freeport is on the verge of reaching its true potential".
