Sports Blast 4 karate tournament kicks off today

Martial arts fans are in for a treat this weekend when the Sports Blast 4, Open Karate tournament kicks off today.The event which caters to the youth and adult martial artists will be held today at Bahamas Faith Ministries, on Carmichael Road. The tournament starts at 9 a.m. If you are into Karta hard and soft, point sparring, continuos fighting, extreme Karta and grappling then you don't want to miss this event.

Some five schools from around New Providence have signed up for the tournament. Among the schools are Bison Institute, SSSâEUR^and Smokies Karate school. Today's event is all about bragging rights and tournament facilitator Sensei Jason Basden said all the instructors are ready.

"This tournament should be a spectacular event," said Basden. "I am looking forward to seeing some good fights. It is going to be good competition especially in the fighting division. We have all age categories that will be represented. I'am sure that every school will come and bring their best students and competitors. Everyone will play a role in this championship tournament."

All winners will receive trophies. The fun-filled, family-orientated event, according to Elnathan Rolle is being used as a fundraiser. A team will be selected to compete in the upcoming Pan American Games. Plans are also in the making to attend the Circuit Fall tournament in Florida.
