Catholic leader right on stance regarding homosexuals

Dear Editor,

Regarding the Reuters article "Pope digs in against gay marriage push", March 10, 2012:
I commend Pope Benedict XVI for his latest condemnation of homosexuality and same-sex marriage.
If you can't procreate you must negate! This was the teaching of Jesus Christ who denounced homosexuality in claiming that "God created man male and female" (Matt. 19: 4-6). The Catholic Church in union with her founder also rejects the terms 'gay' and 'lesbian' calling them unfounded and unwarranted reductionist terms that do not describe the fullness and richness that is in every man and woman.
There is no 'gay gene' and no scientific proof that homosexuality is innate. This cannot be trumped by the mere antidotal evidence of a few who deliberately and conveniently confuse love with lust.
Marriage is an institution that predates civilization, ordained by God, and exclusive to one man and one woman who are given the responsibility to procreate the human race, and to nurture, educate, and pass on shared values and mores to their offspring. To redefine marriage to include same-sex couples is to strip marriage of an essential component, namely the ability and obligation to procreate. This would render marriage meaningless and open it up to endless revision and redefinition.
