Christie tells Long Islanders 'let's kiss and make up'

Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Leader Perry Christie urged Long Islanders on Wednesday night to allow the party to represent them in the House of Assembly.
This is the first time the PLP has offered a candidate in Long Island since the 1997 general election.
Christie, who was speaking during the PLP's constituency office opening in Long Island, said it's time to move in a new direction.
"So, I've come here tonight to ask you to take my hand and to take Alex Storr's hand," Christie said.
Storr is the PLP's candidate for Long Island.
"Walk with us this time," Christie said. "I know we've had some bad breakups in the past. But there's still a lot of love in our heart for each other. I know there is. I can feel the love right here tonight. And it has to be that way because, as I said before, this is where it all began for the PLP."
Storr will face Free National Movement (FNM) candidate Loretta Butler-Turner and Democratic National Alliance (DNA) candidate Mario Cartwright.
Some islanders reportedly believed that the PLP punished them for not supporting the party during the time when the late Sir Lynden Pindling was prime minister.
Christie said it's time to put all of that in the past.
"So I've come here tonight to ask you to please, let's kiss and make up. Let's let all the old regrets dissolve in an ocean of love and reconciliation. Let's not let Alex Storr, a wonderful young man, a decent young man, get caught up in what may have gone wrong between us in the past.
"Let's not make him a victim of that. Instead give him a chance to right old wrongs. Give him a chance to prove himself to you. He won't let you down. And we, as a party, won't let you down either.
"So, let Alex be the bridge to a new future for Long Island. This is a great and historic opportunity we have. Let's not blow it. Let's embrace it. Take my hand, as I take yours. Take Alex's hand as he takes yours. And let us move forward together in love and with renewed purpose.
Christie added: "The dream of H. M. Taylor 60 years ago lives on. Together we can still make it a reality, for the good of Long Island and all its people."
Sir Henry Taylor formed the PLP with the late Cyril Stevenson and William Cartwright in 1953.
Taylor represented Long Island from 1949 to 1956. He was voted out after he helped form the PLP.
