Year-end goal for new permit system

GOVERNMENT'S multi-million dollar Electronic Border Control System could be fully operational by year-end, the Director of Immigration said yesterday, while lamenting that too many job openings that can be filled by Bahamians are still going to foreign workers.

Jack Thompson said the latest module of the Border Control System, the Electronic Identification card, could be ready by year-end and usher in a new era of immigration control in the Bahamas.
