A Chinese man was killed on Sunday after he received a single bullet to his shoulder, police reported yesterday. The man was killed shortly after 5 a.m. near his Village Road home, bringing the murder count up to six for the year so far.

By this time last year, the country had already recorded 10 murders. Details surrounding the latest shooting are sketchy, but police said the victim was in his mid-forties.  A bulletin from the Chinese Embassy yesterday identified the man as Mr. Chan, a citizen of Hong Kong.  Initial police reports indicate that the victim was brought into hospital yesterday with a gunshot injury.  He succumbed a short time later.

Police are investigating and are appealing to members of the public who may have any information regarding this incident to contact police.

Police released a composite sketch of a male who they want to question in connection with yesterday's murder. The suspect is believed to be in his mid-twenties and is described as having a medium brown complexion, slim build and stands 6 feet tall.

One hour before the Chinese man was killed, police were called to the scene of a stabbing incident that left two teenaged boys in serious condition in hospital. The incident reportedly occurred shortly before 3 a.m. at a club in the Independence Shopping Centre. Police are uncertain of the circumstances surrounding the attack and are appealing to members of the public with information to contact the police.

The victims, ages 18 and 16 years, were taken to hospital via emergency medical service personnel, where they are detained in serious condition. Active police investigations continue.  Anyone with information related to any of these incidents are asked to contact authorities at 919, 911, 328-TIPS or the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991.
