Consultant Blamed for Housing Contracts

Contracts to build government homes were directly awarded by a consultant, thus reducing the housing director's role to that of an advisor within the former Ministry of Housing and National Insurance.

Ministry of Housing technical director Godfrey Major said he was stripped of his responsibility to contract infrastructure work and house building in 2002 without explanation.

In view of the gross technical mismanagement cited in an independent audit of the former ministry, Mr Major, in an interview with The Tribune yesterday, explained his role in the Housing programme.
