Bamboo Town's historic moment

Dear Editor,

Thank you for the privilege to write you once again.  I thank God for this democracy that we both share and enjoy the freedom to express ourselves, and to show our political persuasion without fear of discrimination or victimization. This is something we have not always enjoyed.  For this, I am thankful.
Bamboo Town, oh Bamboo Town!  You have the power and the power is within you.
Early Sunday morning (October 16) around 3 a.m., I found myself wrestling and struggling to fall asleep.  As I tossed and turned I found myself thinking about the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) and what it means to me.  It entails much I will not express at this time.  I am thankful to Branville McCartney for the selfless sacrifice he made for this country and all Bahamians.  This sacrifice is now shared by many Bahamians along with the candidates who now share his vision.  I oftentimes ask myself, "Why am I getting so deeply involved?"  My peers also question me and can't understand why I am so passionate about the DNA.  A good leader inspires and moves people to do things they ordinarily would not do - an ordinary citizen who had never thought he would be in a struggle to make his country better.  Thank you Branville McCartney.
Another thought that was on my mind was the upcoming election.  The vision about the Bamboo Town constituency came to me.
Bamboo Town you go way back.  Remember the days of Leander Minnis?  Your community and houses have aged and many of your residents are dead and gone.  It is an old constituency where some of the buildings are 40 or more years old.  You will take center stage this election.  All eyes will be on you.  This is your time - your time to shine.  In the past you may have been of little significance.  But now the whole Bahamas will be watching and listening to you.  Those in the seat of power and those who aspire to that power will tremble in fear when you speak.
Whilst citizens of the great United States of America protest on Wall Street, you are blessed.  Whilst countries all around the world have citizens in protest and revolt, you are blessed.
Think about what took place in Greece, Italy and in the streets of London and you will seize and make use of the opportunity that you have.  Think about the blood that has been shed and the many lives that have been taken in countries like Iran, Libya, Syria, and you will know that you are blessed.
Oh, how ironic it is that countries around the world, which enjoy democracy as we do, take to the streets in protest against the very same governments that they've given power to.  But you are blessed.  You don't have to take to Bay Street in a cloud of confusion for your voices to be heard.
Shine now Bamboo town.  You will be the envy of all constituencies.  The center stage is yours.
Boast in what you have and what you will do.  Speak where it counts.  Take the glory.  It is yours for the taking.  Set a new course in Bahamian history; write your names there by accomplishing what many countries around the world have not accomplished.
Show the world and the citizens of democratic countries how it should be done.  Use the power that you have within you - no stress, no fight, and no bloodshed.  Just simply mark your "X".
Yours, etc.,
Mr. DNA
