"ACE 2011"

ACE is a bi-annual exhibition that was started in 2009 by Jessica Colebrooke to bring together Bahamian Potters and Ceramicist under one venue.

Although a public call was sent out, very few of the Professional Ceramicist and Potters (those who hold a Degree in this area of Art) participated. Instead, those persons with true dedication and passion for this art form were in full attendance such as Sue Bennett-Williams, Imogene Walkine, Neko Meicholas, Tamara Russell, Monika Minnis, Jessica Colebrooke and Maxwell Taylor.

The first ACE also took the opportunity to honour Denis Knight for his pioneering contributions in bringing awareness and appreciation of ceramics as fine art in The Bahamas. As a tribute to this enduring talent, the Denis Knight Choice Award was established in July 2010 through the College Of The Bahamas to be awarded to a COB student who exhibits consistent excellence in ceramic work. This summer, the first recipient of this award was Mr. Alistair Stevenson.

For the 2nd ACE the theme “My Flamboyant Teapot” was strategically chosen since the exhibition was being held at Doongalik Studios on Village Road and several years ago Jackson Burnside had been instrumental in influencing Jessica to pursue this theme.
