Reality versus Romance

IT'S the old 'knight in shining armour' trope, the cliché of the rogue with a heart of gold who is tamed by the 'right' woman which fills the plots of so many romance novels and subconsciously influences our expectations of men.

As teenage girls when we graduate from reading children's books we search for more 'adult' fare. Often we are drawn to the books our mothers read, everything from Danielle Steele to Nora Roberts, from Georgette Heyer to Jayne Ann Krentz.
