International Judo clash this weekend (free lessons too)

Fighters from Barbados, the U.S. and The Bahamas will battle at Loyola Hall on Gladstone Road on Saturday.

The Bahamas Judo Open starts at 1pm, lasts three hours and costs $10.

D'Arcy Rahming, president of the Bahamas Judo Federation, said the the competitors have been preparing all summer.

“I am amazed at the level of development,” Rahming said. “The public can look forward to an exciting family oriented event."

Vlad Marenscu from theInternational Judo Federation will be at the Bahamas Judo Open on Saturday and plans to meet with local officials about developing Judo in the region.

Marenscu is the personal assistant to the president of the International Judo Federation, Marius Vizer.

As part of a non-violence initiative, the BJF is holding free Judo camps at St. Bede's Hall on Kemp Road from 10am to 12:30pm every Monday through Thursday until August 19. Call the Bahamas Judo Federation at 364-6773 to find out more.
