Enclosed is a Joint Press Statement on Eleuthera by Clay Sweeting and Ryan Pinder, MP? On August 25th, 2011, Hurricane Irene lavishly and without remorse ripped through the island of Eleuthera, wreaking havoc on all its inhabitants, from the deep south to the north.  The most significant impacts were felt during the early morning hours where many of the settlements experienced wind speeds of up to one hundred and twenty five (125) miles per hour and experienced significant flooding.

The storm failed to bring widespread surge of water that had been feared on the island, however settlements such as Governor's Harbour and Cupid's Cay did experience significant ocean surge and flooding.  Hurricane Irene, however, did cause widespread damage including power outages, telephone and cellular outages, as well as building and home damages ...
