A tropical depression in the Atlantic is forecast to become a hurricane this week, but it's still too early to know if it will strike The Bahamas, still recovering from the impact of Hurricane Irene.Tropical depression 12 is forecast to become Tropical Storm Katia -- the name that replaced Katrina in the rotating storm roster because of the catastrophic damage from the 2005 storm.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said yesterday the depression, which is currently south of the Cape Verde Islands, could become a tropical storm and could reach hurricane strength by Thursday.As of 5 a.m. this morning Katia's position was 11.8 degrees north and 31.7 degrees west. Registered winds were 40 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph. Track of Katia is west- northwest at 17 mph and its minimum pressure was registered at 1006 mb or 29.70 inches.
