THE USE OF FERTILISERS

DURING the upcoming vegetable growing season we will need to use plenty of fertilizer to ensure good crops. Plants produce some of their food through photosynthesis, and in the early stages through seed leaves. But this is like a car in idle; it will not take you far.

Plants also need elements and absorb them through their roots in the form of soluble salts. There are three major elements: nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Then there are the minor elements, those of which we usually need only a trace, but like vitamins to human beings they are all essential to the health of a plant.
