Bahamas and CARICOM sign amendment to Social Security Protocol

NASSAU, The Bahamas - The Protocol
amending the CARICOM Agreement on Social Security was signed between
The Bahamas and the CARICOM Secretariat on Friday, July 23, 2010.

The signing ceremony took place
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the Hon Brent Symonette, Deputy
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs signed for The Bahamas,
and David Fraser, Senior Legal Officer signed for the CARICOM Secretariat,
Guyana.

Through the National Insurance
Board, The Bahamas is an active participant in regional social security
affairs and has been involved in the discussions leading up to these
amendments.

"The amendments to two key
sections bring clarity to the determination of eligibility of claimants
and the amount of payable under the agreement" Mr. Symonette said.
