Shoe Dermatitis

THIS week I choose to highlight a condition referred to as shoe dermatitis. Shoe dermatitis is a medical condition which is caused by contact of the foot with chemicals in the material of footwear. This condition can be either irritant or allergic.

Irritant shoe dermatitis is often caused by wearing shoes that are wet, poorly fitting or that have uneven linings. However, in the case of allergic (contact) dermatitis, there are many different substances that can cause this condition, which is quite common and is frequently complicated by secondary infections or eczema.
