Murder Charges Against Five Men Withdrawn

Prosecutors yesterday withdrew charges against five of six men who were jointly charged with the 2007 murder of Adam Evans.  Mario Delancy, Willie Watkins, Jameka McKenzie, Zhivargo Bootle, Shawona Pinder and Jerann Delancy were accused of Evans' death, which occurred on July 16, 2009.

However, after one day of testimony prosecutors dropped charges against all of the defendants with the exception of Mario Delancy, whom a prosecution witness allegedly saw beating Evans on the side of the road in Spring City, Abaco.  Corporal Erica Colebrooke said she received a call around 4:45 a.m. on July 16 and went to an area near Carl Mills' residence, where she saw Evans on the ground.

She said Evans had a laceration to the back of his head and appeared to have a broken leg and arm.  Colebrooke said she asked Evans what had happened and he replied "fight, fight" before he  lost consciousness.  Colebrooke said emergency medical services (EMS) personnel arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later.

The case continues before Senior Justice Jon Isaacs today.  Ambrose Armbrister is the prosecutor and V. Alfred Gray represents Delancy.
