A magistrate yesterday fined a 17-year-old girl for breaking into a school and stealing electronic items and a vacuum cleaner.

She was one of four people who were initially charged in connection with the theft of the items from St. Francis and St. Joseph Catholic Primary School in August 2009.

Six Dell computers, a 19-inch television set, one DVD player, two scanners, a Dell laptop and a vacuum cleaner were reportedly stolen during the break-in and several administrative offices were destroyed by fire.

Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis fined the girl $1,000. If the fine is not paid by July 29, she will spend six months in prison. He also placed her on probation for one year. If the girl gets into trouble during the probationary period, she could spend six months in prison.

In the same case, Magistrate Rolle-Davis acquitted Kirkland Woodside, 25, of receiving two IBM computer systems, a scanner and a vacuum cleaner that were stolen from the school. Sergeant Godfrey Brennen was the prosecutor.
