Bahamas golfers not doing well

The Bahamas team at the 54th Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships is not faring as well as anticipated.

The Hoerman Cup team for regular players was sitting in eighth place out of a field of nine countries after the first three days of competition.

The team of Benjamin Davis Jr, Devaughn Robinson, Oren Butler, Richard Gibson Jr and Rashad Ferguson had shot a total of 961, 17 strokes behind the Cayman Islands and 86 ahead of last place Turks & Caicos.

Individually, Davis Jr. shot rounds of 76-78-79, Robinson did 78-83-78; Butler 81-82-78; Gibson Jr. 92-84-79 and Ferguson 85-85-87.

Davis Jr. had the best overall showing with a total of 233 for 22nd in the individual leaderboard. Robinson is tied for 31st with 239; Butler tied for 33rd with 241; Gibson is 37th with 255 and Ferguson is tied for 38th with 257.

The Bahamas' best showing is in the Francis & Steele-Perkins Cup for seniors with the team of George Swan and Paul Bowe combining for a 216 for second place. They trail Trinidad & Tobago, who lead with 214 and they are three strokes ahead of Barbados and Jamaica, who are tied for third with 219.

The next best showing is coming from the super senior team of Vernon Wells and Bobby Rose in the Higgs & Higgs Cup. The veteran Grand Bahamian combo trail Trindad & Tobago and Puerto Rico.

The mid-amateur team of Shane Gibson and Chris Harris have slipped to fifth place in the battle for the Ramon Baez Trophy. They have a total of 217 after shooting rounds of 72, 70 and 75.

The OECS is out front with 210, followed by Jamaica with 212, the Dominican Republic with 214 and Trinidad & Tobago with 216.

And in the George Teale Trophy for ladies, the Bahamas is limited with just two players on the team.

The combo of Danielle Robinson and Taneka Sandiford are 502 for eighth out of a field of nine. Robinson shot rounds of 87, 78 and 84, while Sandiford did 89, 81, 83.

Puerto Rico are out front with 442, while Trinidad & Tobago are in second with 457 and Barbados round out the top three with 4369.

The tournament is scheduled to be completed today.
