8-yr old dies from traffic accident injuries

The young Abaco male student who was struck down along with his sister, last Thursday (11.9.08), while on their way home after school, has succumbed to the injuries that he sustained in that accident. Eight year old Malik Fenelus of the Mudd, Marsh Harbour, a student at the Central Abaco Primary School, died in the Intensive Care Unit at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau, around 3:00pm on Monday (15.9.08), where he had been detained since being airlifted there, following the accident.


Malik, along with his five year old sister Brianna, were walking along Bay Street in Marsh Harbour around 3:55pm, when, upon reaching in the vicinity of the Auskell Medical Clinic, they suddenly began running towards the southern side of the road, but were struck down by truck # 3636, a white Dodge Ram that was being driven west by Ms Nadia Curry of Murphy Town. The accident occurred on a curve in the road. Ms Curry stopped immediately after the impact and summoned the police. oth of the injured children were transported to the Government Clinic by EMS personnel.

Brianna was treated and later discharged, however, Malik, whose injuries were diagnosed as being very serious, was later airlifted into New Providence and detained in the Intensive Care Unit at the Princess Margaret Hospital. His death is being classified as the third traffic fatality this year, on the island of Abaco.


Traffic Police in Marsh Harbour and Grand Bahama, are conducting an investigation into this accident.
