Beauties of Bahamian Descent Claim Title in Caribbean Pageant

Young Ladies representing The Islands Of The Bahamas capture Miss and Junior Miss crowns in Atlanta Caribbean Carnival Pageant

Representing The Islands Of The Bahamas, contestants twenty-year old Nadia Barr, and 14 year old Serena Turnquest, took home the crowns of Miss and Junior Miss Atlanta Caribbean Carnival at the recent Fourth Annual Scholarship Pageant at Miller Grove High School in Lithonia, GA.

The pageant was presented by the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival Bandleaders Association (ACCBA) and featured three categories. Five-year old Priya Mungroo, representing the island of Trinidad, walked away with the title of Princess. Other countries represented in the pageant included, Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The event which included a variety of entertainment highlighted the contestants competing in a series of categories including Cultural/Historical wear, Evening wear and Talent. In addition to the crown, Barr won the Miss Congeniality, People's Choice, Cultural/Historical Presentation, Talent and Evening wear while Turnquest also walked away with the People's Choice, Miss Entrepreneur, Evening wear and Cultural/Historical Presentation wear.

“I’ve watched this group of young ladies prepare and rehearse for several months and on the big day they made us all proud. They competed well, made friends along the way and will all go on to achieve great things in the future,” Pageant Director, Nadine Quinland Phillips, shared.

During the year-long reign, the ladies will represent Atlanta Caribbean Carnival at various events in metro-Atlanta and around the country. Among their many appearances, the beauties will be seen at the upcoming 23rd Annual Atlanta Caribbean Carnival, to be held May 28th, as well as other events leading up to the Carnival celebration.

The Bahamian queens were among the popular/featured guests at a recent event at the Tyler Perry Studios, Atlanta, GA, promoting The Islands Of The Bahamas.
