Walking a mile in their shoes GGYA leaders embark on adventurous journey

volunteers in the Governor General Youth Award (GGYA) beefed up on
their expedition skills Saturday, going through the necessary training
and preparation before embarking on an eight mile adventurous journey
around the southwestern tip of New Providence.

 

Eighty-two volunteers hiked, camped, and slept outdoors on Saturday.

 

"They actually experience what the young people experience when they
have to do it," said the GGYA's executive director Denise Mortimer.
"This gives the volunteers a better understanding of the adventurous
journey section. It helps them prepare their young people for when they
go out. Also, it also helps us to have a safe and enjoyable expedition
because volunteers would have been properly trained and would have had
prior experience of an expedition on foot...
