Nassau, Bahamas - The Government of The Bahamas is encouraging construction workers to focus on the quality of service they deliver.

Public Works and Transport Minister the Hon Neko Grant said along with increasing opportunities for training, the Ministry is strengthening regulations in the construction industry with the introduction of a Contractors Bill.

“We feel that this can be most effective through a Contractors Bill, which has been in the process of being drafted for some time now. It is in the final stages having received input from the Contractor’s Association,” Mr Grant said.

“The Attorney General’s office is now cleaning up the Bill and as forecast from the Speech from the Throne we expect to have that Bill before this Parliament in short order.”

In his address to Parliamentarians thanking the Governor-General for the Speech from the Throne on May 5, Mr Grant said there has been much discussion with regards to building human resource capacity within the construction industry.

Among the opportunities to be offered to the construction workforce is access to training.

“The Government has taken a positive step in that direction as we recently passed the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) Bill which will provide for the training of construction and other industry workers as we move forward,” Mr Grant added.
