The HBO Latin America original production ranks as the most streamed documentary on HBO GO and will also air in the U.S. on HBO Latino

HBO’s 2016 Documentary Season comes to a close on December 5th at 21hrs* with the highly anticipated encore presentation of Wars of Others, the HBO Latin America original production that takes a controversial and introspective look into the Colombian government’s anti-coca fumigation campaign. Wars of Others has experienced unprecedented success in Latin America, becoming the most-streamed documentary on HBO GO[1] in the region and it has fostered an ongoing dialogue around the potential health effects this war may have on unknown and unnamed victims.

The story of Wars of Others analyzes the relationship between Colombia and the United States as allies in the war against drugs and the longstanding strategies that failed to eradicate the drug trade while exposing the Colombian people to a major health epidemic. Wars of Others takes an unadulterated look into this issue by exploring the practice of aerial spraying with glyphosate, a key tool in the collaboration between Colombia and the United States in the “war on drugs,” specifically against the cultivation of the coca leaf. This herbicide was declared to be potentially carcinogenic by the World Health Organization in 2015 and its health effects on the Colombian people have yet to be determined.

War of Others will also make its debut in the United States on HBO Latino on Wednesday, December 14th.

In its fifth documentary season, HBO showcased 11 documentaries, including the recently Emmy® Award nominated Mapplethorpe and Everything is Copy, as well as the new documentaries Meet the Donors: Does Money Talk and Marathon: The Patriots’ Day Bombing. HBO’s documentary season demonstrates that HBO, in addition to having the best original series and the biggest blockbuster films, is also home to the best selection of documentaries – unique in their genre and available only to subscribers of HBO in the region.

In addition to their premiere broadcast on HBO, all documentaries from the 2016 season, as well as a selection of the best HBO documentaries, are also available to subscribers on HBO GO, the digital platform for Premium entertainment, via participating operators.
