BAMSI officials attends FAO session

Ambassador Wm. J. Godfrey Eneas and Mr. Leslie Minns met with Dr. Jose Graziano Da Silva, Director General of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) during the 43rd Session of the Committee of the World Food Security (CFS) from 17th- 21st October, 2016 in Rome, Italy.

The 43rdSession was the occasion where two hundred (200) member states of FAO gathered to develop and introduce the global food security and nutrition plan. Within the context of the CFS, the Bahamas presented its Agri Vision 2021, a five-year food and nutrition security plan to feed The Bahamas.

During the Session, Ambassador Eneas appraised with the Director General of the damages which The Bahamas experienced as a result of Hurricane Matthew. The Director General confirmed that FAO, through its Emergency and Rehabilitation Division, would be assisting the farmers and fishermen of The Bahamas once its assessment had been completed in conjunction with the ECLAC Mission which will be in The Bahamas during the week of October 23rd – 29th, 2016.

A fisheries Expert from FAO’s regional office in Santiago, Chile will be a member of the disaster review ECLAC Mission.
