Andros was one of the areas severely impacted by Hurricane Matthew. Last Saturday, October 22nd, BTC held a special relief effort to provide assistance to over eighty families.

The on-island Department of Social Services indicated that there were just over eighty families that were desperately in need of assistance. Many of these families had to be relocated into other homes because of the damage or complete loss of their own homes.

CEO Leon Williams was on the ground and walked alongside the BTC team in Andros to provide care packages directly to the persons in need. “This was my second visit to Andros since Hurricane Matthew. The devastation here is beyond anything that I could ever imagine. Last Saturday, the entire team in Andros along with some of our iVolunteers walked house to house to deliver care packages. Some persons have lost their entire homes, we saw many foundations as evidence that houses were there just two weeks ago.”

BTC provided air-mattresses, sheets, towels, toiletry items along with bread basket items and water.

The company also held a special afternoon event in the Lowe Sound community. Residents from all over the island attended. There, BTC presented the District Education Officer with notebooks and pencils to replace those damaged in the storm. There was a basketball match among the junior schools. BTC also provided residents with bread basket items at the event.

BTC is organizing a relief effort for Grand Bahama and intends to be in the community in a week.
