Man accused of having dozens of bullets

A 30-year-old man accused of having dozens of bullets with the intent to supply was yesterday remanded into custody to await a preliminary inquiry.

D'angelo Charlton, of Farrington Road, appeared before Magistrate Constance Delancy accused of having 50 rounds of .40 ammunition with intent to supply.

Delancy told Charlton that he was not required to enter a plea to the charge in compliance with the recently decided case of Chevaneese Sasha Gay-Hall, which dealt with the mode of trial.

Delancy said that she would hold a preliminary inquiry to determine whether she would commit Charlton to stand trial in the Supreme Court or deal with the case herself.

Delancy told Charlton that she had no choice in remanding him into custody as the Bail Act had removed her jurisdiction to grant bail for the offense.

Ian Cargill represents Charlton.
