A man was shot dead on Walnut Street in Pinewood Gardens early yesterday, police said.

Chief Superintendent Ashton Greenslade, officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit (CDU), said the victim was shot by three armed men in a white van.

"Sometime around 8:35 a.m., police control received a report of gunshots coming from the [Walnut Street] area," Greenslade said.

"Our responding officers upon their arrival met the lifeless body of a dark male lying to the northern side of the road.

"Information received is that sometime this morning, a silver (Nissan) Skyline came here and a white van was parked on the corner.

"Once the Skyline parked, three male occupants, all armed with firearms, approached the vehicle.

"The driver attempted to flee. He was shot multiple times by the occupants of the van where he collapsed to the side of the road here."

A 38-year Pinewood resident was among those who found the body.

She wished to not be named.

"It just goes to show you [that] people do not fear God and do not care," she said.

"It's so terrifying for someone to come through the corner in this community, where people look out for one another and kill someone execution style... It sounded like a bunch of firecrackers.

"People were shooting through the corner. When I came outside, I saw a gentleman outside lying on the ground and I ran over and there were bullets in his head.

"The young man doesn't live in the area."

Another resident said she was walking in the area moments before the murder.

She said she did not notice anything out of the ordinary.

A while later, she said, she heard gunshots, saw birds flying and glanced at the suspects running from the scene.

Residents said the victim appeared to be in his late 30s.

No one was in custody in relation to the murder, police said last night.
