With twelve days since the passing of Hurricane Matthew, The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited (BTC) continues to work around the clock towards full network restoration. In the midst of its massive restoration efforts, BTC has also ramped up its community initiatives.

This weekend, BTC restored landline services to affected customers in Fox Hill, Domingo Heights, Faith Gardens, Yellow Elder, East Bay and Sunset Park in New Providence. Services have been restored to Grand Cay, Blockard Drive and Midshipman in Grand Bahama. Landline services have also been restored in Red Bays, Andros. Additionally, mobile services have been restored to Red Bays, Andros. BTC has also conducted maintenance work and necessary repairs to its Nassau Village and Gambier Village mobile towers.

The company took to the streets just days following Hurricane Matthew, organizing its “Power for an Hour” community campaign.

“Our mission is to always believe in better, this includes doing our part to build better communities where we live. We wholeheartedly believe that it is important, to demonstrate that we are a company that cares. This Hurricane has left a tremendous amount of damage, much that the entire public has not been able to see. We feel that it is incumbent upon us to share that sense of charity and community and this is just the beginning of our efforts. BTC is cemented in every island and call and will do our part on each of the affected islands to bring hope and restore normalcy,” said Leon Williams, CEO.

Last Saturday, BTC visited with displaced residents in the Adelaide, Marshall Road, South Beach, Hanna Road, Lumumba Lane communities. Tomorrow, the company will partner with Mt. Tabor Full Gospel Baptist Church and make its rounds in the Pinewood Gardens Community.

During its visits to these communities, residents are able to charge their mobile devices. At the same time, they are also provided with access to drinking water and potable water in instances where water supply is not available.

BTC is also extending its efforts to the other islands affected by Hurricane Matthew. Currently, the company is working in conjunction with officials from Andros and Grand Bahama. This weekend, BTC’s iVolunteer Team will make its rounds in Andros, providing care packages for residents.

Customers are encouraged to report any service issues they may be experiencing with landline, mobile or internet by phoning, CALL-BTC (225-5282) or sending us a message on any of our social media pages. BTC will provide updates as they are available.
