A four-year-old girl, who was found unconscious in a car in front of her home on Friday in Palm Beach Court, died in hospital on Saturday, according to authorities.

While details were limited, Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean said police understand several children were playing in front of the home and entered the car around 2 p.m.

A short while later, the girl was discovered "unresponsive" by a resident of the area.

Emergency medical treatment at the hospital was unable to save the young girl.

Dean said while an autopsy would confirm the cause of death, there were no injuries on the child's body.

Asked whether the vehicle was derelict, he said it was in operation.

Dean noted it is common for children in the community to play outside, but did not wish to speculate as to what may have happened to the girl.
