The United Nations World Tourism Organization’s “World Tourism Day 2016 Celebration,” September 27, 2016 carried the theme ‘Tourism for All – Promoting Universal Accessibility’ demonstrating the commitment of tourism leaders to include the disabled in tourism planning.

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism hosted a one-day symposium at Melia Nassau Beach Resort on Tuesday as part of the global campaign to make tourism accessible to all. Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Perry Christie is pictured, right, at the symposium during a tribute to President of the Bahamas Association for the Physically Disabled, Sir Durward Knowles, left.

By Act of Parliament, the Bahamas seeks to eliminate discrimination against the disabled, and established a National Committee for Persons with Disabilities Secretariat to oversee the mandate.
