Honoring its commitment to assist with rebuilding the lives of children, their education and the normalization of schools in the areas affected by Hurricane Joaquin, Lyford Cay Foundations donated $80,000 of technology and supplies to all affected public schools on Long Island, San Salvador, Crooked Island, and Acklins.

Following the devastating news, representatives from the Lyford Cay Foundations visited Long Island and San Salvador to tour the schools that were damaged, and assess potential areas of need. The Foundations worked with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to decide upon how best to support the students and schools, ultimately choosing to assist with providing much needed technology and back to school supplies for students.

Projectors, laptop and desktop computers, printers, laminators and photo copiers were presented to 15 schools (San Salvador High School and United Estates Primary School in San Salvador; Morrisville Primary, Mangrove Bush Primary, Lower Deadman's Cay Primary, N.G.M. Major High, Simms Primary, Glinton's Primary and North Long Island High in Long Island; Ulric H. Ferguson Primary, Crooked Island High, Lovely Bay Primary, Salina Point Primary, Snug Corner Primary, and Acklins Central High in Crooked Island and Acklins) serving approximately 1,000 students as their needs required. Additionally, 1,000 back to school packs with items purchased locally from Custom Computers, John Bull, The Amoury Company and Wong's Bookworld, were distributed so that each student would have the necessary supplies for the opening of the school year.

Equipment and supplies were shipped to the islands for the beginning of this school year.

"Rebuilding from a disaster such as this is no easy task. We wanted to ensure that our students are equipped to continue their education in the wake of such devastation," said Basil P. Goulandris, chairman of Lyford Cay Foundation. "The Foundations are especially proud of our longstanding partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and recognize the importance of supporting the Ministry's efforts during times of crises."
