THE Tara Xavier Hepburn Foundation has named four scholarship recipients for 2016 - Presley Godet, of A. F. Adderley Junior High School, Ashley Treco, of L. W. Young Junior High School, Vashanti Storr, of S. C. McPherson Junior High School, and D’angelo Smith, of St. John’s College.

The four scholarships brings the total number awarded by the Foundation to 33 since the inception of its scholarship programme in 2007. The scholarship covers full tuition and the cost of books for studies in grades 10, 11 and 12 at St. Anne’s School or St. John’s College.

In order to be considered for a scholarship, applicants must be nominated by their school or be a member of the TARA Project, attain at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average, have demonstrated leadership ability and/or community involvement, be of good character and successfully pass a minimum of five Bahamas Junior Certificate subjects, including English and Mathematics, with grade C or better. Applicants also may be required to attend an interview.

The Scholarship Committee is satisfied that all of the new Tara Scholars, like the former and current Tara Scholars, will make or continue to make a worthwhile contribution to their respective Anglican school.

Presley Godet and Ashley Treco will be entering grade 10 at St. Anne’s while Vashanti Storr and D’angelo Smith – a member of the TARA Project – will be entering grade 10 at St. John’s. The Scholarship Committee is satisfied that all of the new Tara Scholars will make or continue to make a worthwhile contribution to their respective Anglican school.

The addition of these four Tara Scholars brings the total number currently enrolled in high school to 11. The other seven Tara Scholars, all of whom are studying at St. John’s, are Dwayna Archer, Deneil Rolle and Danitra Sargent, who will be entering grade 11, and Monique Chandler, Shania Lewis, Ralph Sealy, and Nastacia Turnquest, who will be entering grade 12 when St. John’s reopens at the end of the month.
